I was inspired to write a post about wasting money on food when some coworkers tried a new menu item at the cafeteria and didn’t like it and ended up throwing their food out and having to get another lunch. And spend double! It was the kind of thing though where they could’ve had a small taste to determine whether they liked it first.
I’m a picky eater, I don’t venture outside the norm very often at all. BUT I don’t waste a lot of money on wasted food then either. I just got back from a cruise vacation. Cruises are GREAT ways to try new foods with no penalty. The food is all-inclusive and pretty much unlimited so you can feel free to try crazy things and if you don’t like it you can just order something else. (Though, there’s still a part of me that doesn’t like wasting food, even if it’s free because of the guilt about people starving in 3rd world countries!) Buffets are great too for trying new things. If you want to try a new ice cream flavor, ask for a spoonful to taste! Ask to taste your dinner-mate’s meal to see if you like it. There are lots of creative ways to try new things without being on the hook to pay for a full meal you may not like! Do you have any other suggestions?
